Already thriving in Fort Worth, Texas, Steve Humble takes over and remodels store in Norman.
The Squire Shop was founded in 1994 by the Fort Worth local now Lawton, Okla. native, Steve Humble. Humble had a love for three things: food, Miller Lite, and OU football so naturally, when he was offered the chance to own a store in Norman, home of the Sooners, he jumped at the offer.
One day, Humble got a call from a young banker who lived in Norman that knew his son, Todd, a graduate from OU. He expressed that he was struggling with trying to run a profitable clothing store and run a bank at the same time. The banker’s hands were also tied because he could not get brands like Peter Millar, Vineyard Vines and True Grit, failing to please his customers and locals.
The banker asked Humble if he would like to take over his store, Threads Menswear, in which he jumped at the opportunity. Humble completely remodeled the store and changed the way things were managed inside of the doors.
“It was a good opportunity; we knew it was going to be a good store. It was a decent store for him but it needed a little bit of push in the merchandise,” said Humble.
He now owns both stores but mainly manages the Fort Worth branch, while the sister store in Norman steadily brings in profits from the north.
